Social Work

To enable all survivors of GBV to reach out for further help after the medical and psychosocial support from GVRC through other partner organizations.

Ward Rounds.

All survivors of GBV who are admitted for further medical management are seen by the social worker during daily ward rounds. The social worker does the social assessment, monitors the development and informs management through daily reports on each survivor.

Referrals

All survivors upon being declared as stable by a medical doctor and the counselor, the social worker will do another social assessment which will determine what else the survivor needs. These usually vary from case to case basis. The main areas of referrals include shelter, legal aid, counseling, delivery options, micro-finance institutions, relocation and reintegration. The social worker calls the centre offering the service to book for the survivor an appointment, a referral from is filled citing the needs of the survivor, together with a medical report as referral documents. Incases where the survivor is not medically stable or a child who is not accompanied, an ambulance is used to take the survivor to the referral organization.

Follow up

Follow up is done by the social worker for all the referral made by him to other centers to determine if the survivors got help, and their progress. This is done through visits and phone calls to contact persons in the respective organizations.
